Founder Spotlight: Nicole DelToro
1. How did you first step into recruiting?
I was not aware that recruiting was a career path, so I sort of fell into it. I met other people in the field and found out that recruiting was a fit both for my skills and what I enjoy doing. Recruiting in the finance and accounting industries was a particularly good fit because most professionals in those fields are conscientious and career minded. I enjoy working closely with these professionals to help them attain career goals. On the client side, I enjoy how I can learn a lot about a wide variety of businesses as well as have an impact on the client’s business.
2. What was your vision when first starting Andrews & Cole and how has that evolved?
When I first started A&C, I envisioned the company as a search business that focused on direct hire recruiting because that is the work I had done at my previous company. That vision has evolved, and throughout the years, our consulting and retained search businesses have expanded. Also, we branched out from recruiting just finance and accounting positions to take on searches for positions in Human Resources and Operations. While we initially started the business with a focus on the metro DC area, we have been able to utilize our methodology and network to complete searches elsewhere.
3. What has been one of the most memorable team moments in the last 18 years?
We have had a lot of memorable moments, so it is hard to identify a small number. But it is always exciting when we send a client two great candidates, and the company hires both people.
4. What advice do you have for recruiters or those potentially thinking about moving into the recruiting field?
My advice is to become an expert in your area because that is how you become a valued business partner. Also, we always try to do what’s right for candidates which in turn benefits clients which in turn benefits business.
5. What motivates you to go to work each day?
I truly love the people I work with, including my team, clients, and candidates. I am also motivated by the ability to make a difference in the lives of our candidates and organizations.
6. What is one thing you love to do in your free time?
I love to spend time with my family, cook, bake, run, play golf, volunteer, and spend time with friends.
7. What is your favorite tv show or movie?
Victoria on Masterpiece, really anything on Masterpiece or PBS.
8. If you were not a recruiter, what would you do instead?
I majored in liberal arts because I was interested in a lot of different things from business to law to service, so it is difficult to answer. But I love animals so I might foster dogs.
9. Did you try anything new or develop any skills during Covid?
One skill I developed during lockdown was the ability to run five miles with a mask on!
10. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I love heavy metal music.
11. What is your superpower?
My partner Brooke would say my superpower is that I can remember every person I’ve ever talked to over years of recruiting. I am really good at remembering faces and details which is incredibly helpful in recruiting!
